Ilie Nastase was the defending champion but lost in the quarterfinals to Harold Solomon. Björn Borg defeated Manuel Orantes 2–6, 6–7(1–7), 6–0, 6–1, 6–1 in the final to win the Men's Singles tennis title at the 1974 French Open.
