Bjorn Borg was the two-time defending champion, but lost in the quarterfinals to Adriano Panatta. Adriano Panatta defeated Harold Solomon 6–1, 6–4, 4–6, 7–6 in the final to win the Men's Singles tennis title at the 1976 French Open.
